What are the advantages of using DALI?
DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) is the industry standard of communication protocol used to control lighting such as LED Drivers. The protocol is specified by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) in the multi-part IEC 62386.
This lighting interface system enables lighting to use a digital signal which allows for more precise and flexible control.

What are the advantages of using DALI?
There are several advantages of choosing a DALI control system for your LED’s:
1. Easy Reconfiguration
DALI allows for spaces to be configured using software, taking away the need to tear into the ceiling. This flexible, sustainable solution takes away the need to rewire, thus making the process of rearranging working environments to meet space and usage requirements much easier.
For example, if a commercial area was partitioned to become both office space and a reception area, DALI allows you to program the lighting to operate as two separate groups rather than one.

2. Increased Building Efficiency and Control
Lighting controls provide the opportunity for substantial savings through reduced energy consumption. Lighting can be tailored on an individual fixture basis or throughout the entire facility to accommodate energy rates, the amount of visible daylight (through dimming), peak demand etc.
This can extend the lifetime of lighting fixtures and reduce maintenance cycles. It also provides full system visibility for check and optimising energy usage.

3. Simple Installation
DALI is a very popular control option as installation is much simpler than with other systems. This is because DALI uses highly straightforward 2-wire connections.
In addition, the system also offers high levels of customization. This means that both installation and maintenance work can be performed quickly with minimum downtime.
4. Quick and Accurate Monitoring
DALI enables you to monitor the status of each fixture and ballast quickly and accurately. This is important for facilities managers as maintenance and replacement becomes far less time-consuming. It also means that the energy usage of each individual light can be measured and monitored easily.
What applications is DALI used in?
DALI is both cost-efficient and flexible, making it a worthwhile investment for a range of applications.
DALI systems should be used when driver level control is needed. This technology is common in open space commercial environments. This is because, when cubicle and workspace layouts change, lighting can be altered as required. Other typical applications include conference rooms, retail premises, university lecture halls and hospital operating rooms.
DALI technology provides exceptional flexibility for both retrofit and new-build installation. The best results, however, are seen when the technology is incorporated into a new build. This is because, when a DALI network is wired, lighting control circuits are not required. Conversely, when a DALI system is applied to an existing system you don’t benefit from installing the more efficient and simpler DALI wiring system as these control circuits are already in place.
At Hilclare we stock a range of DALI dimmable LED light fixtures, such as the ISLA ADVANCED Gen 2, an ideal for commercial environments.
